What's a lifestyle business?
Lifestyle business is a new-fashioned term for something relatively old-fashioned. You may have also heard this called a MicroISV, micropreneurship, a bacon biz, bootstrapping, or any number of things I haven't heard of yet.
But the concept's not new: it's a small business. To be specific, it's a small business that lets you enjoy a particular lifestyle (hence the name!). And if you're here reading this here on Lifestyle.io, your business probably has something to do with technology.
In short, you might want to have a lifestyle business if:
- You don't want to move to Silicon Valley.
- You don't want to work 80 hours a week.
- You don't want to raise venture capital.
- You want to live where you please.
- You want to work less.
- You want to own your business.
You've probably heard of some of the great successes like 37signals, Joel Spolsky and Jeff Atwood, Patrick McKenzie, Amy Hoy, et al. And there are millions of people we don't hear about, and they're just fine with that.
